Petitsin

"Petitsin" is the brand name for our resin based, flexible, paintable classic interior ornamentation. We have done business continually in Los Angeles since circa 1914. The historic technologies were brought to the United States by JP Weaver from a family history of ornament making in London that dated unbroken back to the work of the Adam brothers in the late 1700's.

Petitsin is decorative mouldings and ornament made of a highly classified company secret blend of modern materials that have been blended to hold the super-fine details and undercuts. It has been designed to facilitate the completion of the entire project. Installations that would have taken months have been reduced to a matter of days.

Characteristics that make Petitsin unique:

• Petitsin castings are sharper and cleaner than any other carving replications on the market. Its quality exceeds anything that can be executed in carved wood and can be pre-finished prior to installation.
  
• Petitsin is paint-ready. Hours of labor are eliminated because no pre-treatmentwith acid washing or special priming is necessary as with other companies.
  
• The most expensive mould materials (French Silicone) are used to insure the reproduction of every nuance of the original sculpture. The moulds are remade frequently to insure detail.
  

What is Petitsin made of?

Petitsin is not a styrofoam. It is notflammable. It is a very durable, resilient, bendable casting. Radiused mouldings (more torque on the outside edges) have held up beautifully for over two decades under the worst field condition in hotels & casinos where they were also subjected to extreme temperature variations. Naturally the exact material blend is a secret... but is an expensive blend based on the highest quality ingredients from the polyester resin family.

Signature Plaster

The Signature Plaster Series of Staff Mouldings consists of beautiful original designs including cornices, ceiling bands, fireplace surrounds, ceiling medallions, capitals, small domes and dome rings.  

“Staff” is the proper term for the more sophisticated, architectural decorations made of various combinations of plaster derivatives. For years JP Weaver has been known among our private clients for the most elegant and finely designed large custom staff crown mouldings that emulate the finest period of European design.

Our mouldings have finer detail with undercuts than the European originals. Each original design has been created by our own designers and sculptors. This premier collection has been chosen from over 25 years of custom design work in international mansions. Our selections include cornices, ceiling bands, fireplace surrounds, ceiling medallions, capitals, small domes and dome rings to name but a few.

Compo

Composition ornament is commonly referred to as “Compo”. The origins of Compo have been traced back to Italy, circa 1500. The formulas have always been held secret relative to the “Bottegia school” that produced them. J.P.Weaver came to Los Angeles circa 1914 and founded his own branch of his historic family business (London, 1780). His ornament has been recognized in many of the early films (Ben Hur, 1917) and the early Los Angeles historic mansions and theater houses.

Naturally the formula is a secret closely guarded through generations. The JP Weaver composition is made of the identical natural elements that have composed this remarkable ornament form for centuries.

Using the historic technique of steaming, the ornament is self-bonding.. no glue or nails are necessary. Once secured the ornament does not shrink and endures for decades.
